Geothermal HVAC and Building Envelope Improvements

for Saratoga National Bank & Trust, Corinth, NY Branch

The branch bank building on Main Street in Corinth, NY was built in 1972.  The 2,800 square foot building was not well insulated and heated by resistance electric coils in the air conditioning duct work, electric base board radiation and a collection of personal portable electric heaters.

The project included significant building envelope upgrades to conserve energy and a geothermal heating and air conditioning system to maximize operating efficiency.  This combination was determined to be the most cost effective solution to reduce long term operating expenses while significantly increasing employees’ comfort year round.

The geothermal HVAC system consists of a vertically drilled closed loop earth heat exchanger with source water pumping and distribution system to circulate water/propylene glycol solution through the earth heat exchange loops and the heat pumps. For the building envelope improvements all single pane plate glass was replaced with either double paned low –E insulating glass or replaced with foam core sandwich panels.
